Difficult Decision to Resign

Career Letter

Dear …

After giving it a great deal of consideration, I have decided to tender my resignation as __(position)__ with __(Name of organization)__. This was a most agonizing decision for me, particularly because of the loyalty I feel towards you and __(Name of Organization)__. My decision was so difficult, as it was based on many things that are important to me in my life, including my family as well as my career.

The new opportunity presented to me, enables me to become more balanced in my business and personal life, while at the same time giving me more earning potential. This is obviously very appealing, and my family was quickly in full support of this career change. After weighing all the pros and cons, I have now accepted the offer.

The last day of my employment with __(Name of Organization)__ will be __(date)__. This should allow enough time to find a replacement for me and should also give me plenty of time to finish those projects I am working on before the position is turned over to my replacement. I am also happy to assist you with training the new incumbent during my remaining time here.

Please allow me take this opportunity to tell you that my experience with __(Name of organization)__ has been an exceptionally rewarding one. I am very thankful to everyone who made my life so pleasant here. In particular, I want to thank you, __(Name)__, for the chance you gave me to work for such a fine organization. You’ve always been such a great source of encouragement to me and I will never forget all your kindness and support.

Sincerely,
